Our In-house Thimble Eye Mechanical Splicing
Abrasion often occurs to the steel wire rope sling eye during lifting/rigging operations where there's excessive contact of the steel wires to the edges, may lead to wire damage on the wire rope sling, that could likely consequence the steel wire rope sling to be taken out of service.
To protect the steel wire rope sling from such damages, it is highly recommended that we add a thimble to the steel wire rope sling eye, providing a solid steel barrier between the wire ropes and the other connected fittings used in operations; as such we can always see the thimble eye wire rope being commonly used in heavy applications such as lifting and towing.
In STL, there are a few types of thimble that could be considered for the job, depending on the application the user requires.; A solid (heay-duty) thimble is more suitable for heavy-duty, static or abrasive applications, such as lifting, towing or anchoring, whereas a standard wire rope thimble is more suitable for light-duty, dynamic or non-abrasive applications, such as rigging, hoisting or securing.

Refer to the procedural-picture below for an example of a thimble-eye sling production, where you can observe a standard thimble installation onto the steel wire rope for the swaging process.
