Our Steel Wire Rope Annealing and Tapering work-flow
December 09, 2020 Article last updated on 12 July 2023
Fuse And Tapering, also known as anneal and tapering, is a common procedure to completely fuse the steel wire-rope-strands together through heating, followed by twisting & pulling (reducing the diameter of the steel wire rope at fuse spot) to break off the wire-rope creating the tapered finish ends.
Why perform Anneal and Tapering?
Annealed and tapered steel wire ropes not only resolves the unraveling, untwisting problems (that cause the wire rope to flare open during handling, installation of the steel wire ropes) that is often encountered, it also makes the wire rope easier to manipulate, for installation into various types of fittings.
How We Perform the Procedure in SING TECK LEONG (STL) ?
Equipped with our powerful Talurit annealing machine, we can produce the required tapered-end steel wire rope by using extremely high heat to fuse the wire rope strands together, and then twisting and pulling them to break off the wire rope, creating a slightly tapered finish.
Let us briefly go through the steps for better visualization of the process...

How The Finished Product (Steel Wire Ropes) Looks like?
The finished steel wire ropes will have a slightly rounded & tapered finish ends, that will not unravel or flare-open during installation & usage.
