Operations Team in Training - New Wire Rope Tester
April 12, 2024 Continuing to upgrade our Tools & Skills
In today’s dynamic business landscape, the adage "sharpen your axe" is no longer about maintaining the tools of your trade; it’s also about continuously looking for “better tools” - allowing us to do better/improve, and honing our skills set – improving our skills and knowledge allowing us to stay ahead of the curve.
As such, the concept of continuous learning and improvement is regarded as a critical factor in STL, in ensuring that our team are not only equipped with the state of art tools, and are also adept at using them effectively.
Key Area of Focus
One of the key challenges surrounding the rigging and lifting solutions, is the determining of the structural conditions of the lifting slings, especially so of steel wire ropes as any flaws and damages occurring internally is not easily detected via visual inspection. Traditional inspection methods are often time-consuming, labor-intensive, and subjected to human error.
As steel wire rope sling supplier, we understand that the safety of these ropes is paramount, as their failure may lead to catastrophic accidents; as such looking for means to better predict the lifespan of the wire rope, detect internal flaws & defects, and preventing failures before they occur is always an on-going business.
New Inspection Equipment - Improving our Skill-Set & Knowlege
With the above focus scope in mind, the team sought the Wire Rope Test Equipment with "Wire Rope AI Inspection Technology"; making use of state of art technology (using non-contact weak magnetic sensing and AI) to perform NDT on steel wire ropes, detecting flaws not visible to human eyes in a fast and accurate way.
The Wire Rope Tester (TCK-W) was brought to site, and the team invited the equipment trainer to STL for a skill upgrading training session for our Operations Team.
Below pictures shows the team enthusiastically learning from the trainer on the New Equipment setup and working methodology.

Below pictures shows the trial runs on a sample wire rope and interpreting the test results.

Stay tuned for more information as we will update upon perform a few more test runs.
