30-Tons Snatch Block for Load Test
October 10, 2023 Every now and then we receive customers' request for not so common sizes of lifting and rigging gears to be load tested. It is always an eye opener for an Noob, rookie like myself who has limited hands-on touch and experience on the heavy industries' equipment, be it from the construction and/or marine, off-shore industries.
This time, we received an Extra-Large sized Snatch Block (or Pulley Block some may call it) to be inspected and proof load tested.
Considered the length of this snatch block to be well over a-metre , and weighting a hefty ~150kgs, it giants the smallest steel wire rope snatch block (0.5 Ton), we stock in STL, weighting only ~1.5kg and 30cm tall.
This 30T Snatch Block Giant is almost 100X heavier than our 0.5T baby snatch block ;)
Check out the pictures below, where the team inspected and loaded the 30T snatch block for the proof load test at 1.5X its WLL.
The entire process took around an hour from inspection, setting up, performing load test proper and finally unloading for customer retrieval.
I look forward to another "interesting" lifting gear in our factory to broaden my spectrum of views in this industry...till then, i'll stop here for the day :)
